EQUINE EXTRAVAGANZA

At the MRVHA meeting this afternoon we got a lot accomplished and all-in-all enjoyed about 90 minutes of good horse conversation. I'll get the rest of the meeting notes together in a few days, but here are some highlights:

Sherry Regner reported on how the Equine Extravaganza is shaping up and it sounds like it will be great. From all reports, last year’s was terrific. This year, mark your calendar for October 3rd, Saturday, at Horsemen’s Center from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.
It sounds like there will be something for everyone! Seminars with large animal DVMs - Dr. Jacob Johnson and Dr. Margo Machen. Topics include first aid & triage, lameness issues, colic, etc.

3:00 – 4:00 Q & A session with both vets – Don’t miss a chance to talk to equine vets!
5:00 - Q & A session with farriers – All shoeing and feet questions answered!

Lots of Breed demonstrations MRVHA member Stacy Nichols is bringing a variety of horses to demonstrate native costume, dressage, English and western pleasure … I know I’m missing something, but I had already begun thinking about the native costume. It is so appropriate for the High Desert! Don’t forget to bring your camera!
Vendor booths cost $75 for a 10x10 space; Non-profit price for booth - $25 for 10x10.

Oct. 18 Trail Ride – Trail Ride Sponsored by the Town of Apple Valley Equestrian Advisory Committee – See Apple Valley from the saddle! Discover some interesting riding through the Town easements. Meets at Lion’s Park at 8:00, ride out at 9:00 and return by noon. Limited to 30 riders.

The Equestrian Advisory Committee could use your support and input. The next meeting is Oct 14; the 2nd Wed. - 7:00 at Town Council Chambers.

Please pass the word to your friends in other High Desert horse clubs. Send this link to them:
http://mrvha.blogspot.com. Call 760/240-7000 x 7071 for Equine Extravaganza information. Call Sherry Regner about the Trail Ride at 760/240-6239.

New Trail Class

Just wanted to let everyone know about a new class in MRVHA's September Double-judged Futurity and Open show. It's a Gambler's Choice Jackpot Trail class and is a timed and pointed trail course. Each obstacle will have a point value. Complete the obstacles of your choice within 2 minutes, and you accumulate the points.

Obstacles can be repeated, but not consecutively. Do Obstacle C for 20 points, complete another obstacle and you can do Obstacle C again. You just can't do Obstacle C (or A or B, etc.) twice in a row, but you can repeat obstacles as many times as you want, as long as you complete other obstacles in between.

The rider with the most points completed within 2 minutes, wins the jackpot - winner takes all. The entry fee is $20, with $5.00 going to the Club. With 10 riders, the jackpot will be $150!! This class only will be single judged.

Also, please help our Youth Pinto members collect dog and cat food to be donated to local shelters.

Thanks,
Lisa, The Announcer ;-)

Pinto World Championship Show - Tulsa, OK June 12

Friday:
Thunderstorms this morning. Severe weather warnings and Kaitlyn called to let us know that there was no power at the show barns.

When we were finally able to get television satellite back, the news was of the storm passing through Tulsa. Tornado warnings northeast of here near Disney, Oklahoma . We were being told to know where our safe place was. The warning "expired" about two hours later.

Pink your Pinto Parade is scheduled this evening in Arena 1. Kaitlyn will be collecting donations for
Photos later.

Thursday Top Ten for Team Krig

THURSDAY - June 11
(Click on photo to view full size)

Kaitlyn showed this morning in English Showmanship, taking home a Top Ten … 8th in a class of 52! Here she is with Potter and Sherry Krig, Potter’s breeder. Note the banner on the Team’s tack room – one for Sherry’s team and another for High Desert Pinto.

At 7:00 this evening, Kaitlyn showed in Versatility – Youth and Amateur riders, limited to 15 entries. This class has 4 events and each rider has team of grooms - those good sports , Sherry and Diane (Jenn’s mom)! Riders and teams never leave the arena, and have only 5 minutes to change, tack up and warm-up for the next event. I’ll write more about it later – and post the photos.

By the way, Tony Lucas is here, too. I never knew he was such a jokester! ;-) Yes, that’s Tony with the faux-hawk! Who’da ever thunk it?!

WEDNESDAY June 10

Wednesday:

Reunited with our daughter and the rest of the crew. Have great stalling area next to the Identification Center where Laura Fowler can be found working. The Team has the responsibility of caring for the raffle gelding. His name is Kai, although I’m not sure of the correct spelling. He’s very cute. I’ll take a photo of him later this week.

Kaitlyn showed in English today, but her spurs were too long. The rules changed this year. Her’s were a quarter-inch too long. Potter, being a rather lazy boy, needs those spurs to keep him going. No placements for them today.

Both Jenn and Leah placed under the judges. Congratulations to them!

Pinto World Championship Show - Tulsa, OK June 9

Well, several MRVHA and High Desert Pinto members have already arrived in Tulsa for the World Championship Pinto Horse Show. Exhibiting with Team Krig are: Kaitlyn LaMere (Youth Sr.) riding William Potter, Jennifer Lee (Youth Novice Sr.) on Feather, and Leah Grisham (Youth Jr.) on Zippie. Arriving in a few more days is A.J. Martin, who will be exhibiting Smokey’s Melody. (Hi Marlee!!)

However, Scott and Lisa LaMere are enroute, headed from Amarillo Texas to Oklahoma City as this is being written. They are just showing up ;-). All except for Jennifer Lee are MRVHA and HDPtHA members. Both Clubs are being well represented this year!

Since this is being written while Scott drives – he’s listening to the Lakers/Magic game – I’m unable to look up classes, but will do that tomorrow.
Talk to you later.

1st Open Show of the Season

The Club had a nice turn-out for our double-judged show, held on April 17. Our judges, Debbie Donnoly and Chris Slauson had nice entries although I don't have exact numbers yet, but our halter classes had up to 11 horses in a class, and our Open Western classes had 6 to 8 riders. We had a few Walk Trotters in the 10 & under, and a few in our W/T 11 & over.

This year we have 2 Leadliners - a brother combo. Austin, the youngest, rode Tucker in the Equitation class, and Ethan rode Tucker in the Trail class. Both took home soft horsey pals, donated by Laura and Tob Fowler.

I'll post other results over the weekend, and a photo or two. In the meantime, the Club extends a very big THANKS to the Kay and Rick Green and their three wonderful kids. Special shout out to Britany, Justin and Cody. And your freckled friend; oh, yeah, and Little D for helping draw the winning raffle tickets. Much appreciation to all of them for the hard work, great brownies and incredible chicken fajitas! The Snack Shack brought in $118.

MRVHA raffled several prizes that we had, in the past, bought for High Points. The raffle winners took home Herman Oak reins, a grooming apron, two double-sided bridle bags, an English garment bag, and a Western Saddle cover, which brought in $85.

It was nice seeing a few old friends at the show, as well as new exhibitors. And Taylor, thanks for stewarding! We hope to see you soon. :-)

The next show is the 3rd Annual Desert Color Classic on May 19, so we need to get together for another meeting before that show. We'll have the April show report and a Treasurer's report, and we have to take care of arrangements for ribbons, High Point Awards, etc. I believe the Greens enjoyed themselves so much they've volunteered to run the Snack Shack again!

I will take a look at the calendar tomorrow and post a few dates. We will need to have a quorum, but especially want your input. And this is such a great group, that it's nice just to have a light meal together and talk horse. Hope you will join us - I'll let you know when.

~Lisa, the Announcer ;-)

Sherry Regner spoke to the members and guests about her efforts to promote Horsemen’s Center, multi-use trails, with her involvement in the Town of Apple Valley’s Equestrian Advisory Council. The council is holding the 2nd Equine Extravaganza on October 3rd at Horsemen’s Center. Much enthusiastic discussion took place, and some suggestions were made, including the possibility of MRVHA partnering with the Advisory Council during the EqEx. Their next meeting will be the 2nd Wednesday in May at 7:00 pm at Town Hall and some MRVHA members expect to be attending.

Meeting adjourned 8:15 p.m.

2009 April Membership List (Pre-Show)

Greetings All! This post is to publish the first in a long time of membership list. It is so up-to-date, it even shows "pending".

Speaking (writing?) of this post, that reminds me of a hitching post, and so, how about we name this blog the ...
MRVHA Hitchin' Post
Simply leave a comment with your yay or neigh (sorry, for the lame pun) or another suggestion.
I'm researching some ways to get the PDF premiums and forms online in a way that can be read, is easy to do, and is FREE! So excuse the following list, I hope it doesn't get too scrambled. ;-)
In order to protect members' privacy, the Club will not publish addresses, phone numbers, or e-mail addresses. Copies are available for the Board only. If there is an error, please leave a comment for everyone to read, or let us know at mrvha.info@gmail.com. Here's the list:

Welcome to MRVHA's new blog!

Greetings and welcome to MRVHA's answer to a website!

If you are a lifetime member, a returning or new member, and especially to those who exhibit at our shows, this is the place where you will find up-to-date information about MRVHA. Premiums, show results and even our meeting minutes will be posted here, along with photos.

We will try to keep this as informational as possible, so if there's anything you would like posted, let us know. New foals, a new ROM, a win at another club's show - just send an e-mail to mrvha.info@gmail.com. Please don't forget the 'dot' between mrvha and info.

Our next meeting is tomorrow, April 8th, at 6:30 at Molly's in Apple Valley. Minutes will be posted within a week of the meeting, so no one forgets what it is that we have committed to doing. Over the next weekend, I will get the Fuzzy Play Day results online. Unfortunately, no photos, but we will have some of our Double Judged Show on April 19th. We hope to see you there!

Best to ya'll,
~Lisa
