1st Open Show of the Season

The Club had a nice turn-out for our double-judged show, held on April 17. Our judges, Debbie Donnoly and Chris Slauson had nice entries although I don't have exact numbers yet, but our halter classes had up to 11 horses in a class, and our Open Western classes had 6 to 8 riders. We had a few Walk Trotters in the 10 & under, and a few in our W/T 11 & over.

This year we have 2 Leadliners - a brother combo. Austin, the youngest, rode Tucker in the Equitation class, and Ethan rode Tucker in the Trail class. Both took home soft horsey pals, donated by Laura and Tob Fowler.

I'll post other results over the weekend, and a photo or two. In the meantime, the Club extends a very big THANKS to the Kay and Rick Green and their three wonderful kids. Special shout out to Britany, Justin and Cody. And your freckled friend; oh, yeah, and Little D for helping draw the winning raffle tickets. Much appreciation to all of them for the hard work, great brownies and incredible chicken fajitas! The Snack Shack brought in $118.

MRVHA raffled several prizes that we had, in the past, bought for High Points. The raffle winners took home Herman Oak reins, a grooming apron, two double-sided bridle bags, an English garment bag, and a Western Saddle cover, which brought in $85.

It was nice seeing a few old friends at the show, as well as new exhibitors. And Taylor, thanks for stewarding! We hope to see you soon. :-)

The next show is the 3rd Annual Desert Color Classic on May 19, so we need to get together for another meeting before that show. We'll have the April show report and a Treasurer's report, and we have to take care of arrangements for ribbons, High Point Awards, etc. I believe the Greens enjoyed themselves so much they've volunteered to run the Snack Shack again!

I will take a look at the calendar tomorrow and post a few dates. We will need to have a quorum, but especially want your input. And this is such a great group, that it's nice just to have a light meal together and talk horse. Hope you will join us - I'll let you know when.

~Lisa, the Announcer ;-)

  • ... and if those aren't cowboy names, I don't know my Louis L'Amour! ;-)

Everyone should know that comments can be posted by readers as well. Laura mentioned that the sign-up using an aol.com address didn’t work, so she used her Yahoo e-mail address. Both Gmail (Google) and Yahoo have free e-mail. The blog will be updated over the weekend, including the posting of these minutes.

Lisa also presented the draft Show Report for the Fuzzy Play Day prepared by Liz Swaffield. We have grossed $710.82, but need to also deduct the park fee and show insurance which were unknown. Sherry M. handed in two receipts for sodas and waters; one for $39 and change, and another that was for uncalculated amount. Sherry M was given $40 in cash, and both receipts provided to the Treasurer with the Show Report. Balance of reimbursement to be made at April 19 show.
· Rough estimate is $425 netted for the Play Day. The money, along with checks for two members joining the Club this evening, were given to Laura Fowler to drop off at Suzi’s, for deposit and reimbursement.

Food
Great News! We have Snack Shack Volunteers - a whole family!! Friends of Laura - Kaye and Rick Green and their 3 children - are assisting and making chicken fajitas with tortillas, cinnamon rolls, brownies and something else that sounded delicious! We are very appreciative for the help, truly.

· Laura and Kaitlyn will make cupcakes … Sherry K. is providing spaghetti
· The following beverages from the Fuzzy Show are at the LaMere’s: 18 – Pepsi, 20 – Shasta Cola, 20 - Diet Coke, Sprite, 15 - Dr. Pepper, 22 - Orange, 12 – Root Beer, 22 – Shasta Twist, 22 – 7-Up and 4 cases of bottled water. That’s 151 sodas and about 96 waters. It probably wouldn’t hurt to get a few more cases of water, especially if it gets hot that day.

· Need ice and muck buckets for soda & water. Can’t find a note about who volunteered to do this. Anyone owning up?
· Coffee maker is at Sherry K.’s along with BBQ.
· Coffee and coffee maker – Sherry K. has both, but we need to replenish the coffee cups, creamer, sugar, and sugar-substitute.
· We also need ketchup, mustard if we are having hot dogs. And we should stock up on paper goods, stirrers and plasticware.

Old Business
· Reminder: September Show - Gambler’s Choice Trail Jackpot: Have right after lunch break and before Western classes

New Business

Sherry Regner spoke to the members and guests about her efforts to promote Horsemen’s Center, multi-use trails, with her involvement in the Town of Apple Valley’s Equestrian Advisory Council. The council is holding the 2nd Equine Extravaganza on October 3rd at Horsemen’s Center. Much enthusiastic discussion took place, and some suggestions were made, including the possibility of MRVHA partnering with the Advisory Council during the EqEx. Their next meeting will be the 2nd Wednesday in May at 7:00 pm at Town Hall and some MRVHA members expect to be attending.

Meeting adjourned 8:15 p.m.

2009 April Membership List (Pre-Show)

Greetings All! This post is to publish the first in a long time of membership list. It is so up-to-date, it even shows "pending".

Speaking (writing?) of this post, that reminds me of a hitching post, and so, how about we name this blog the ...

Simply leave a comment with your yay or neigh (sorry, for the lame pun) or another suggestion.
I'm researching some ways to get the PDF premiums and forms online in a way that can be read, is easy to do, and is FREE! So excuse the following list, I hope it doesn't get too scrambled. ;-)
In order to protect members' privacy, the Club will not publish addresses, phone numbers, or e-mail addresses. Copies are available for the Board only. If there is an error, please leave a comment for everyone to read, or let us know at mrvha.info@gmail.com. Here's the list:

Welcome to MRVHA's new blog!

Greetings and welcome to MRVHA's answer to a website!

If you are a lifetime member, a returning or new member, and especially to those who exhibit at our shows, this is the place where you will find up-to-date information about MRVHA. Premiums, show results and even our meeting minutes will be posted here, along with photos.

We will try to keep this as informational as possible, so if there's anything you would like posted, let us know. New foals, a new ROM, a win at another club's show - just send an e-mail to mrvha.info@gmail.com. Please don't forget the 'dot' between mrvha and info.

Our next meeting is tomorrow, April 8th, at 6:30 at Molly's in Apple Valley. Minutes will be posted within a week of the meeting, so no one forgets what it is that we have committed to doing. Over the next weekend, I will get the Fuzzy Play Day results online. Unfortunately, no photos, but we will have some of our Double Judged Show on April 19th. We hope to see you there!

Best to ya'll,
~Lisa
