Year-End Awards Banquet for 2009
I must apologise for being pretty lax about posting to our blog. A few weeks ago we had our MRVHA Awards Banquet, hosted by Suzi and Dale Smith. The potluck was amazing, with appetizers (franks in BBQ sauce); hearty entrees like sandwich wraps enchiladas, mac & cheese and Cowboy Stew, wonderful salads (a Greek Salad and a brocolli salad, to name a few) and Sara's simply scrumptious dessert ... and more (I can't remember them all, but I tried a little of everything!).
We had a 'formal' program. You can view smaller versions below (click on them to enlarge, or download and print a copy from here: http://www.yudu.com/item/details/127800/2009-Awards-Banquet---February-7--2010
Following the presentation of all the awards, The Marlee Martin President's Awards went to Kay Williams and Liz Swaffield.

Equine Extravaganza - Mark Your Calendar!
The third annual Apple Valley Equine Extravaganza will be held Oct. 16, 2010 at Horseman's Center in Apple Valley from 9am to 6pm. Vendors, demonstrators and speakers are needed to help make for another successful event. This is a great opportunity for all trainers, breeders, farriers and business owners to come out and show the High Desert what they've got!
Last year's attendance was just under 1,000 and 2008 was just over 1,000. We will have merchandise and food vendors booths available. There will also be demonstrations taking place with the same type of format as in previous years in both arenas, western and english, throughout the day. We are entertaining all new ideas, demonstrations and speakers. If you would like to put your name down for a vendor application or demonstration application please contact Sherry Regner or The Town of Apple Valley, (760) 240-7000 ext 7071. Please mark this date on your calender.
Thank you for your past support and for helping build a greater Horse Community in the High Desert.

EQUINE EXTRAVAGANZA
At the MRVHA meeting this afternoon we got a lot accomplished and all-in-all enjoyed about 90 minutes of good horse conversation. I'll get the rest of the meeting notes together in a few days, but here are some highlights:
Sherry Regner reported on how the Equine Extravaganza is shaping up and it sounds like it will be great. From all reports, last year’s was terrific. This year, mark your calendar for October 3rd, Saturday, at Horsemen’s Center from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.
It sounds like there will be something for everyone! Seminars with large animal DVMs - Dr. Jacob Johnson and Dr. Margo Machen. Topics include first aid & triage, lameness issues, colic, etc.
3:00 – 4:00 Q & A session with both vets – Don’t miss a chance to talk to equine vets!
5:00 - Q & A session with farriers – All shoeing and feet questions answered!
Lots of Breed demonstrations MRVHA member Stacy Nichols is bringing a variety of horses to demonstrate native costume, dressage, English and western pleasure … I know I’m missing something, but I had already begun thinking about the native costume. It is so appropriate for the High Desert! Don’t forget to bring your camera!
Vendor booths cost $75 for a 10x10 space; Non-profit price for booth - $25 for 10x10.
Oct. 18 Trail Ride – Trail Ride Sponsored by the Town of Apple Valley Equestrian Advisory Committee – See Apple Valley from the saddle! Discover some interesting riding through the Town easements. Meets at Lion’s Park at 8:00, ride out at 9:00 and return by noon. Limited to 30 riders.
The Equestrian Advisory Committee could use your support and input. The next meeting is Oct 14; the 2nd Wed. - 7:00 at Town Council Chambers.
Please pass the word to your friends in other High Desert horse clubs. Send this link to them: http://mrvha.blogspot.com. Call 760/240-7000 x 7071 for Equine Extravaganza information. Call Sherry Regner about the Trail Ride at 760/240-6239.

New Trail Class
Just wanted to let everyone know about a new class in MRVHA's September Double-judged Futurity and Open show. It's a Gambler's Choice Jackpot Trail class and is a timed and pointed trail course. Each obstacle will have a point value. Complete the obstacles of your choice within 2 minutes, and you accumulate the points.
Obstacles can be repeated, but not consecutively. Do Obstacle C for 20 points, complete another obstacle and you can do Obstacle C again. You just can't do Obstacle C (or A or B, etc.) twice in a row, but you can repeat obstacles as many times as you want, as long as you complete other obstacles in between.
The rider with the most points completed within 2 minutes, wins the jackpot - winner takes all. The entry fee is $20, with $5.00 going to the Club. With 10 riders, the jackpot will be $150!! This class only will be single judged.
Also, please help our Youth Pinto members collect dog and cat food to be donated to local shelters.
Thanks,
Lisa, The Announcer ;-)
